Vimy Dance

Curriculum

Comprehensive Training

Well rounded dancers have experience and excellence in many disciplines.

Ballet

Professional training in ballet encompasses Cecchetti and RAD syllabi, non syllabus (unset), pointe, variations, and repertoire. Ballet teaches posture, agility, flexibility, strength, musicality, expression and more! Highly qualified teachers with international certifications guide students through progressive levels of achievement.  Students obtain certificates in International examinations. Ballet Classes are enhanced by Non Syllabus, Variations, Pointe, Character and Repertoire work at the appropriate levels.

Jazz

Jazz uses uptempo and current music to explore rhythms, dynamics and energetic movement. This is a fun way to enhance training and improve both flexibility and strength. Students are challenged to perform athletic and vibrant movements.

Jazz dancer

Modern and Contemporary

Students have multiple classes a week that focus on modern and contemporary forms, which include floor work, extensive use of the spine, and varied dynamics. Drawing on traditional modern dance technique and current techniques that extend movement based on, but not restricted by, classical training, these classes help dancers prepare for styles seen on stage and television today.

Lyrical

Often called contemporary, lyrical combines movements from ballet, jazz, and modern to express emotions through dance. In this free flowing form based on jazz techniques, movement and music combine to create storytelling and themes.

Acro

Classes in Acro are offered on a weekly basis for Junior High students and on a rotating basis for High School students. Acro classes follow established curriculum in flexibility, strength, and development of Acro skills.

Acting/Stretch/Turns and Jumps

Students access acting, turns and jumps and stretch classes on a rotating basis to enhance their training and ensure a well rounded education in a variety of arts and with the most up to date skills and training techniques.

Vimy Dance Academy

Vimy Ridge Academy is one of the foremost programs of choice Edmonton Public Schools for junior high and high school students. The Dance Program is just one of many great options for students of Vimy Ridge.

Teacher Training

Students wishing to pursue a career in teaching dance can join the Teacher Training Program post high school.

The Edmonton School of Ballet offers a teaching course in the Junior Grade Syllabi as the first step in teacher training. This course is open to anyone 15 years old and up who has achieved a Grade 6 Cecchetti exam or equivalent. The Edmonton School of Ballet offers a comprehensive teacher training program for those individuals looking to study further and obtain internationally recognized qualifications as dance teachers. This program is typically three years of full, daytime attendance, but may be more or less depending upon the experience and qualifications of the individual.

The Program encompasses theory, practice and experience in a broad range of dance disciplines, ensuring students graduate as well-rounded, internationally qualified teachers.

Adult dancers of a pre-professional or professional level come to ESB to study in a three-year full-time program, which culminates in the exam for the Associate degree in the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet. This teaching credential is recognized internationally and is equivalent to a Bachelor Degree in university and college.

Highly qualified teachers instruct classes, which include fundamentals in Ballet, Modern Dance and Jazz Dance and the many related subjects, which enrich each of these performance disciplines such as Pointe and Repertoire.
